A week in Iceland

What's the craziest adventure you've had with your kids? Last summer my twin brother and I decided to alter our epic mountain bike trip to Iceland by inviting our oldest kids to come with us. We still did a little riding, but let the kids pick a new adventure for each day. Our trip included horse back riding, hiking, and exploring three of the costal shores. Enjoy! Please contact me if you are ...

Double wall rim with rubber rim strip? If the case, best to replace
This is a great idea thank you for it! Did it hold? I am curious to know how the brackets held the weight when most of it was distributed at the end of it?
Yes, holding up strong
All they need is an electric hub motor and your ripping!
I have a Trek 930 Singletrack , I need a front brake cable hanger , it had a shock on front when I bought it with a cable hanger on the front shock , I have since reinstalled the original hard front fork & I don’t know what type of brake cable hanger to use .
There are a ton of options on amazon and ebay, just google cantilever cable hanger and you should see a number for cheap.
Great to see a fix. We throw away far too many things, if it get's another few years then great.. Just need to look at some poorer country's to see that everything can be given another chance at life.
I got a friend at work that messed his bike up had the switch kit. He said he'd sell it to me for $50. Well it looks like I'm going to have to buy a hybrid bike to fit it!
Like your education on chain line. Very well explained.
My bars on my 97 Bontrager Privateer are 620mm. Can I upgrade to 720mm? I like the wider look, more comfortable?
Absolutely.
Marin Pine Mountain looks pretty much like that old bike, except it has disk brakes.
Dig the ancient Machines😮😂❤❤❤
I have the same fork and I'm getting ready to overhaul it thanks to your video. Btw, I have it on my Klein karma mountain bike.
3:44 lol
LOL, I have a Trek 930 here in the uk and I thought the welded double bracket near the bottom bracket was for a stand! Now I know it was for mounting an anti chain suck catcher. 🙂
I was gifted a 930 Singletrack full green color framed bike from my boss a few years ago. I am quickly learning it is one of the best gift I have ever received. I absolutely love my bike. It has a little bit of local history tied to it as well. So it's extra special to me.
That is awesome!
1967.sting.ray.own.in.1970..houston.telphone.road.aptments.87 .mom.and.dad.i.was.in.2k.grad.loved.it.and.blue.coler.veRy.nice😢
I found an old Shrek 900 it was a large frame male bike but it was bubblegum pink and I look like somebody started sanding it down it seems to be a rare bike if you want it you can have it it's about the same year model possibly earlier. I put some cheap parts on it and wrote it for a little while awesome bike maybe 🤔 I should fix it?
14:02 So we should lube the pivots of the rd and the pulley, right? Do we have to do this on the fd too? And how often? Nice vid btw.
Thanks for watching, yes depending on the derailers anything in this age group, it would be good to lube once a year - pivots on both derailleurs as well as pulleys.
I am 51 and really really want to get back into cycling. I have an early 2000s Saracen I got after my bike was stolen. Upgraded bits and bobs and it works well, but thinking about doing a resto-mod on it.
badass. I like it salute to all who represent the spirit of this artistic movement and do it wonderfully in the entire world.
Yup,love mine too.A 2005/6 Pro box(ish) section alloy front suspension, disc brakes,Black forks.. Had her 12 ish years, never let it go, rarely see the alloy Pro bikes.
Amazing rebuild.
Nice 99 trek 8500. I had that bike in 2000 when it was 1 year old. Was so cool to be one of the few in a small town with a hydraulic front disc brake. It also had the red anodised rockshox seatpost and a Judy 100 fork which was considered quite long travel for a race bike. Anyways its cool to see one rolling again. I still have my 2003 8500, great bike also.
That is awesome! Glad you still have the 2003.
They're all dad bikes
hello sir, any questions please? Is the frame of this bike carbon or aluminum? THANKS
Aluminum
Love the build. Does the quick release in the rear provide enough clamping force for you? I have an older frame with forward facing drop outs like your frame and would like to use a QR set up in the rear due to a wider selection of wheel choices but keep being told a QR setup just doesn’t provide enough clamping force on a frame that was designed for a bolt on hub.
You should be fine, when in doubt test it out on a short ride on the grass and pedal hard to make sure the axle is not trying to slip forward.
Hello. From saint louis, you guys did a bike for me some years a go a old schwinn, had to been 10-15 years ago. Was a great bike, I would like to do another bike but ai recently read that Groody bros, downsizing and doing bikes here and there, retiring from it.
I bought that same bike in 1997, loved it! Rode it until December 2012, when I replaced it with a 2013 Stumpjumper. You can't go wrong with Specialized!
Just found a bike from a canal while cleaning it, it's in a similar state, just a litle rustier and planing a full restoration of it
620mm bars ‘normal’? I don’t think so. Hyperlites were 550 as the norm. 620 is revolutionary or early 2000s stuff….or late 98/99.
Just like your videos on your build on your bikes. I truly enjoyed watching you do your building your bikes. Your great and awesome dude. Also, just keep on rocking and rolling.
Just came across this video and feel like I finally have a jumping off point for my '98 F400. It was basic bike to begin with, but I'm just about ready to make an upgraded hybrid -- and still keep it 26" (however counterintuitive that is). Main questions are 1)What parts are still available from basic retailers vs. what should I really look to ebay for? 2) Can I strip it down to just the frame (and strip the frame for paint) and rebuild it with basic sockets/crescent wrenches/hex keys?
Hmmm, lots of ways to approach this. I would suggest walking into a couple local bike shops and talk to their mechanics to see who has some experience working on older bikes. Most mechanics will understand you have a piece of nostalgia that you want to hold onto and should be able to steer you in the right direction with parts and what tools will be needed. Most bicycles form the 90s's have a mix of metric Allen bolts as well as a few specialized tools for bottom brackets, headsets, hubs etc. I would not be able to address all of these questions in the forum here, but a good local bike shop could. Best wishes!
@@CoolBikeProjects thanks for the advice; will check it out.
Nice work..!!! Where did you get the stickers?
You can get them on Etsy or ebay from a number of reputable creators. Velocal just went out of business otherwise I would steer you that direction.
@CoolBikeProjects iam lookin for black letters and reflective smoked gold..!!!
If you see this. NEVER give up. NEVER Surrender.
OMG. You literally built my dream bike. That is a beauty.
Thank you for watching!
How did you do the hardening? T6 hardness are pretty common and will be gone after you weld the frame.
Would you take it on a 10,000 mile tour after one such weld??? Thanks
Yes, but I can only speak for this weld project where I saw the work being done.
Hey, it would be great to have a new update segment on explaining with which bike frame that is capable of having upgraded parts on it. As where for example if you have a 1989 bike frame is compatible with update of using 2024 components or would 1990 parts be likely the best parts for a 1989 . Same thing as well for 1990s. Otherwise I love watching you and hopefully that you will get a chance to do update version soon here.
Thanks for comment, I will have a new video out in a couple weeks with the next build, similar to this one. You brought up some great questions, and Ill look into a video discussing what can be updated and changed for older bikes.
I'm so glad I've found your channel. Actually good bike videos are a treat to watch on UA-cam and these have added qualities to them: -the best bikes i.e. 90's and 00's mountain bikes given a new life, not "building" new ultra high tech bikes or slapping hundreds or thousands of $$ worth of parts on it. -26" or die!! -No loud, obnoxious music, no shouting. -Actually cleaning and maintaining things instead of just changing everything. It's a real treat, thank you so much. 🙏 I've got a few domestic (Finnish) early 2000's alu bikes in the yard, just fixing them up for sale. Few extra forks I need to service and source some tires for my Trek 6500 I picked up for $40. I've been thinking of dropping a few chainrings from the front as the previous owner has gone ghetto 1x anyway by just removing the front derailleur and shifter and the chain is now on the middle chainring 😅 Either that or upgrade Shimano LX -> XT groupset as there's one for sale quite close by for not a too extortionate amount of money. Thank you for these beautifully made, high quality videos that are truly a joy to watch again and again 👌🙏👏
Thank you for youy kind words :) That makes it all worth it. Best wishes on your bike project!
I just aired up the tires on my 9200 and still works perfectly. I doubt I have a 1000 miles on it. I need to find someone in my town who can clean and fix it up properly - like in this video.
I would not have a ton of confidence in that. Aluminum does not react to welds and heat the way steel does. My understanding is that aluminum is weakened through this process, whereas steel is not.
Great job! Beautiful bikes!
Thank you!
This was a joy to watch! I should send you all my 90s bike!
She needs an old scrambler handlebars...
I have one of those... seized seat post... send help.
Great build. Q. Does an 11 speed cog fit between the dropouts the same as a 10. WhT is the MM requirement for it .I'm trying to do the same to a 1999 Zaskar Le.Thanks.
It all depends of the freewheel of your hub. Having said that, most 11spd cassettes are on wider hubs 142 to 148mm.
Really enjoyed this vid! That statement at :19 really resonates with me. I am retired and just like to tinker and work on bikes. Makes me feel good inside, like I still have some worth in life.
Absolutely! Thanks for your comment.
I have a ‘95 and a ‘96 Cannondale M200. Great bikes! My 4th and 5th of this brand….
Thanks for watching Jeff!
Total cost of all that outside work must be close to the price of a new bike. But it's still cool to see the work done and the finished product. Thanks.
Thanks man!
Awesome video! Where did you get the spacers for the bottom bracket? I just picked up a Marin Palisades Trail and doing some upgrades :) Thanks!
These were 24mm spacers. I found them on amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JSMPMYD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1
